Maasai Maiden

This painting is part of a series of portraits of woman from different African countries. I have tried to capture the strength and pride that these beautiful women emanate in their gaze and posture.

The Maasai people, from Kenya and Tanzania, are famously recognizable from their traditional clothes and beaded jewellery. The beaded collars worn by the women identify their clan and social status.

This painting is focused on the adornment more than the portrait and is more abstract in style.
