This painting forms part of a group depicting women of Africa, focusing of the strength and pride that they emanate in the gaze and stature.
The Samburu are a sub tribe of the Maasai from Kenya. The women adorn themselves with colourful multi-beaded necklaces, anklets and bracelets that symbolize the wealth and marital status of the wearer. Each colour has a specific meaning.
The focal point of the painting is the adornment but the woman has a very strong presence.
