Woman of The Himba
This painting is part of a series of portraits of woman from different African countries. I have tried to capture the strength and pride that these beautiful women emanate in their gaze and posture.
The Himba women from Namibia traditionally cover their bodies and hair with red ochre mixed with animal fat, giving then a distinctive red hue which has become an iconic image of this tribe.
The portrait itself is painted in a traditional style of realism but the composition has a contemporary spin.
