Christa Clark

Christa Clark has lived in Hermanus since 1992. She started painting when she retired about 12 years ago. She attended art classes at the Pieter Vermaak Art School in Onrus.

She, in the past, painted with the group of artists at Volmoed and has been part of group exhibitions at Volmoed, Hornbill House, and at the student exhibitions arranged by Pieter Vermaak’s Art School.

In 2016 she had her first solo exhibition during the Hermanus FynArts:
“Changing Faces” at the FortyX40 Gallery owned by Lembu in Hermanus.
2018, June: FynArts: Group exhibition “HighTea” at Forty x40
2018, October: Group exhibition Southhill Wine Estate, Elgin.
2019, June: Group exhibition “The Winter Salon” at The Art Gallery in Hermanus
2019, August: Group exhibition at Sumaridge Wine Estate in the Hemel en Aarde Valley

Most of her work is centred around portraits and faces. Her paintings are varied, ranging from detailed studies to free and spontaneous intuitive work. Using mainly acrylics and mixed media, she relishes the journey of discovery in every new face. Christa experiences a sense of connectedness to people and animals through her portraits.

At present she paints regularly with her 2 artist sisters, Louise Hennigs and Erna Dry. This has led to an exploration into the realm of abstracts, patterns, colour and more intuitive work.
